Writer in Residence
Every year, a Writer in Residence is appointed by VU Amsterdam to reflect on current issues facing the university as a social institution. The Writer-in-Residence Programme is concluded with a publication.

Ronald Giphart
A professor at the VU dies in a fatal accident. Friends from his student days decide to keep an earlier promise: if one of them dies, the others will hold a vigil. This happens in this slightly surreal story, which takes place on the top floor of the VU main building.
‘According to tradition, Sonfjället literally means: place where the sun fell. It was not the sun that fell, it was the entire universe, my body. My arm hit the ledge where Margot was standing, my shoulder grazed the rock under her feet, my torso bounced back and all my flesh tilted.’
